What is 24 Vulpecula
24 Vulpeculae is a G-type giant 438 light-years away, an evolved cousin of the Sun yet far larger and more luminous. It shines in the small constellation of the Fox, neighbour to the Summer Triangle asterism formed by Vega, Deneb and Altair. Its yellow light travels from the era of the first refracting telescopes.
Where it is and when to see it
24 Vulpecula lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
