22 Vulpeculae is an Algol-type eclipsing binary catalogued as variable by Parsons and Abe in 1983, around 1,900 light-years away in the little Fox. The primary is a G-type bright giant, more than four times the Sun's mass and nearly a hundred times its radius; it sweeps a 249-day orbit with a far hotter B-type companion. The light we see tonight began its journey at the close of the Roman Empire.
Where it is and when to see it
22 Vulpecula lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
