1 Vulpeculae is the first catalogued entry of the little Fox, a blue type-B star located about 811 light-years away. It dwells in a quiet stretch of sky between Cygnus and Sagitta, far from the more famous constellations. The light now resting in human pupils set out before the first Gothic cathedral rose from the ground.
Where it is and when to see it
1 Vulpecula lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
