12 Vulpeculae is a bluish B-type variable 630 light-years away, in the small constellation of the Fox tucked between Cygnus and Aquila. Its luminosity shifts in a subtle rhythm that betrays pulsations in its outer layers. The region it inhabits hides the Dumbbell Nebula, one of the most studied planetary objects since Messier's catalogue.

12 Vulpecula lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
