What is HIP 90664
In Pavo, the southern peacock, glows an orange K-type giant 318 light-years away. Its light set out as Bach took up his post at the court of Weimar and began composing the first great organ works. Cooler than the Sun but markedly larger, it serves as a golden gem among the stylised feathers of the bird —in a corner of the firmament known only to southern skies.

HIP 90664 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
