What is Theta Pavonis
Theta Pavonis is a white A-type star in the constellation of the Peacock, 221 light-years away, one among the many modest jewels making up the austral plumage of this bird charted by Dutch navigators. Its clean white light crosses space without fanfare, joining the slow procession of stars that circle the south celestial pole and remain invisible from Europe.
Where it is and when to see it
Theta Pavonis lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
