What is HIP 840

Within the constellation Pisces glows a K-type orange giant 190 light-years away. Its light began its journey around 1836, when Charles Darwin was returning to England aboard the Beagle, laden with the observations that would change biology. Cooler and larger than the Sun, it spills an orange glow across a zodiacal constellation that is modest yet ancient.

HIP 840 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 33° above the horizon.
