What is 21 Lynx
21 Lyncis shines about 273 light-years away in one of the dimmest constellations of the northern sky: Lynx, sketched by Hevelius for those with «the eyes of a lynx». A young, restrained A-type star, it carries no famous companions, only its own clean white glow. Across this sparsely lit patch of sky it stands out as one of the few stable beacons in the Lynx outline.
Where it is and when to see it
21 Lynx lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
