What is 40 Arietis
40 Arietis is an orange K-type star in the Ram, around 462 light-years away from Earth. Its warm light comes from a surface noticeably cooler than the Sun's and filters through a small constellation that in classical antiquity hosted the spring equinox itself. That equinoctial point has since drifted into Pisces, yet Aries still keeps its prestige as the first sign of the entire zodiac.
Where it is and when to see it
40 Arietis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
