What is 17 Pegasi
17 Pegasi is a blue-white A2Vnn main-sequence star roughly 401 light-years away in the great square of the Winged Horse. Its effective temperature hovers near 9,100 K, and it shines more than eighty times brighter than the Sun. The double «n» in its spectral type marks rotation so rapid that its spectral lines visibly broaden: it spins like a young top that has yet to know the friction of time.
Where it is and when to see it
17 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
