What is Phi Capricorni

Phi Capricorni shines at more than six hundred light-years in the Goat-Fish of the zodiac, that hybrid figure imagined by the Sumerians millennia ago and still crossing the horizon every year. It is an orange K-type giant, a star that has exhausted the hydrogen in its core and slowly swollen to dimensions several times solar. A warm light within a constellation of ancient symbolism.

Phi Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 18° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 29° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 77° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere south of 69° N.
