What is Rho Capricorni
Rho Capricorni is a binary system where a yellow-white F subgiant shines alongside an eighth-magnitude companion, separated by at least thirty astronomical units. The main star carries one and a half times the Sun's mass, a surface near 7,000 degrees and around 1.5 billion years of life. At 99 light-years she rests on the back of the Sea Goat, an ancient zodiacal symbol of the winter solstice.
Where it is and when to see it
Rho Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
