Capricornus is an ancient zodiacal constellation, tied in many cultures to the winter solstice. There glows this orange star, surprisingly nearby: its light took only about 29 years to arrive, which on a stellar scale is practically the neighbourhood. It set out in the 1990s, when the first exoplanets around Sun-like stars were just being confirmed and the universe stopped seeming an unlikely place for planets. Nearby K-type stars like this are favourites of those who hunt distant worlds.
