What is 37 Capricorni
37 Capricorni is a yellow-white F-type star 88 light-years away, a relatively close neighbour set against the silhouette of the celestial Goat. Its surface, somewhat hotter than the Sun's, lends it a clean tone and a modest naked-eye glimmer at magnitude 5.7. The light glimpsed tonight set out around 1937, in the years when Bok was beginning to study the small dark globules that would bear his name.
Where it is and when to see it
37 Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
