Its story
In the Peacock — another southern figure born of the Dutch voyages to the southern hemisphere — this orange giant glows from 239 light-years away. The constellation was designed with Hera's sacred bird in mind, with the blue eyes of its tail in mind. This K-type star, well into a late stage of evolution, radiates warm light from a discreet corner of the southern deep sky, without contesting prominence with bright Alpha Pavonis, its more famous neighbour.
