What is Epsilon Sagitta
Epsilon Sagittae lives in the small Arrow, one of the tiniest yet oldest constellations of the sky, already listed by Ptolemy in the second century. At 480 light-years, it is a yellow G-type giant in an evolved phase, with a surface expanded and cooled from its earlier life. Modest in brightness, its quiet light still helps trace the unmistakable silhouette of a celestial projectile suspended between Hercules and the Swan.
Where it is and when to see it
Epsilon Sagitta lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
