13 Sagittae is an M-type red giant whose brightness varies slowly, a trait common to cold, evolved stars. It inhabits the tiny constellation of the Arrow, the third smallest in the sky, suspended between the Eagle and the Swan. Its light, emitted more than a thousand years ago, set out in the depths of the Middle Ages.
Where it is and when to see it
13 Sagitta lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
