What is Rho Telescopium
Rho Telescopii is a yellow-white F-type star about 185 light-years away, in the modest constellation of the Telescope, one of the newest enclosures of the southern sky. Slightly hotter and brighter than the Sun, its existence recalls how many stars within reach of an amateur instrument remained unnamed, hidden from Mediterranean astronomers throughout antiquity.
Where it is and when to see it
Rho Telescopium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
