Zeta Telescopium
What is Zeta Telescopium
Zeta Telescopii is a yellow giant 126 light-years away, in a quiet constellation invented in the eighteenth century by Lacaille to honour the instrument that changed astronomy. Its G-type spectrum makes it a kin of the Sun, but it has already entered the giant phase: an anticipated portrait of what our own star will become several billion years from now.
Where it is and when to see it
Zeta Telescopium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
