What is Kappa Telescopium
Kappa Telescopii is a yellow G-type star some two hundred and seventy light-years away, in another of the southern constellations with which Lacaille populated the southern sky. Telescopium was his tribute to the instrument that had revolutionised astronomy a century and a half earlier. Kappa shines as an older sibling of the Sun —same spectral family, already further along its life.
Where it is and when to see it
Kappa Telescopium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July, when it culminates around midnight.

- From Sydney it culminates about 72° above the horizon.
It can be seen from anywhere south of 38° N.
