Variable star

Its story

Epsilon Coronae Australis is a yellow-white type F star lying just 99 light-years away, within the small southern crown. It is an eclipsing variable: two bodies bound so intimately that they almost graze each other, and as one passes in front of the other their combined brightness gently dips. It belongs to the family of contact binaries, one of the most extreme configurations of stellar coexistence.
