Its story
It dwells in Pavo, the peacock whose feathers of light Lacaille unfurled across the southern sky. Its orange tone places it among the K-class stars, mature giants of warm hue. The glow that grazes us today set out some 355 years ago, when Isaac Newton was publishing his first works on the nature of white light and discovering the spectrum of colours in the prism. Broader than the Sun, it shines with that serene depth proper to stars that have already walked most of their lives.
