Its light took roughly 364 years to cross the void: it set out when Newton and Leibniz contested the paternity of calculus and the great telescopes of Greenwich were barely beginning to observe the sky. It now arrives as a cold, almost metallic flash —faithful to the venomous silence that wraps the great zodiacal predator.

HIP 84690 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky.
