In the vast constellation Ophiuchus, the serpent-bearer, shines a yellow G-type star, a close spectral kin of the Sun. Its light travelled barely 88 years to reach here, setting out in the European interwar period, when the first radio telescopes were being inaugurated and quantum mechanics was finishing its redrawing of matter. It arrives now in a warm, familiar tone, like a twin and reserved sun.

HIP 82621 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
