Its story
53 Ophiuchi is a white A-type star 338 light-years away, set in the immense figure of the Serpent-Bearer, which sprawls across the celestial equator and interrupts the classical zodiac. Hotter and whiter than the Sun, its light left around 1688, in the middle of the Scientific Revolution. It glows in a moderately rich field, far from the great globular clusters that punctuate other reaches of Ophiuchus.
