What is HIP 8241
An unnamed white star within the long course of Eridanus, its light set out 202 years ago, when Europe was emerging exhausted from the Napoleonic wars. Hotter than the Sun and bearing a distinctive silver glow, it belongs to that A-type family which first hinted to astronomers at rapid rotation and circumstellar disks. A crisp imprint on the celestial river.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 8241 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
