What is Cursa
Cursa means «the chair» in Arabic, alluding to its position at Orion's feet, right beneath Rigel, like a celestial footstool. It is a white star, slightly warmer than the Sun, lying 89 light-years away. Its calm and discreet light takes nearly a full century to cross the void towards us, a journey barely perceptible in the stillness of a February sky.
Where it is and when to see it
Cursa lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
