Its story
χ Eridani is a solar neighbour just 58 light-years away, a yellow subgiant already beginning to leave the main sequence. Its G type is kin to the Sun, though older and more luminous, close enough that its light takes barely more than half a century to reach us. It lies along the sinuous figure of the river Eridanus, winding through the southern sky.
