A hot blue-white B-type star, it sits in a region the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians linked to currents and rivermouths. Its light belongs to the southern arm of Eridanus, where the stream pauses before reaching Achernar.

Upsilon 4 Eridani lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
