What is Phi Eridani

Phi Eridani is a hot blue B-type star burning roughly 154 light-years away, set within the long celestial channel of the mythic river that winds south across the sky. Its surface reaches temperatures several times the Sun's, and its blue-white glow betrays an intense cosmic youth — brief by definition at that scale of mass.

Where it is and when to see it

Phi Eridani lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
