What is HIP 6492

Within Pisces glows an orange K-type giant, cooler than the Sun yet noticeably larger in size. Its light has been on the road for a thousand years: it departed when Avicenna was writing the «Canon of Medicine» and Islamic scholarship was bridging Greece with medieval Europe. After a thousand light-years, that warm, constant tone arrives tonight as a silent echo of a millennium in which science, far from dying, simply changed hands so as never to be lost.

HIP 6492 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
