Sigma Piscium is a blue-white B-type star lying some 434 light-years away, in the constellation of the Fishes, that zodiacal asterism shaped like a cord linking two small celestial schools. Its burning surface, far hotter than the Sun's, gives it a cool, sharp light that stands out against the quiet background of Pisces, a region of the sky usually associated with fainter stars.
Where it is and when to see it
Sigma Piscium lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
