What is HIP 40945
Orange, deep, burning in the hull of Puppis, this K-class giant tints the southern winter sky with copper. Its light has travelled 1007 years: when it left, the knights of the First Crusade had just taken Jerusalem and Europe was beginning to dream of the East. The star knows nothing of that —it simply burns with the stubborn calm of old suns.

HIP 40945 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
