Blue heat at the stern of the mythic ship, in Puppis, some 728 light-years away. The radiation now crossing the atmosphere set out toward us when Spanish conquistadors still roamed the Andes and Copernicus was beginning to doubt Ptolemy's sky. A stellar flame at the southern edge, burning and silent.
