A white A-class variable lost among the sails of Puppis, 1,539 light-years away—a distance so vast that its light set out in the depths of the Middle Ages, when Marco Polo returned from Cathay and dictated his tales from a Genoese prison. Its brightness shifts faintly, a stellar breath only modern photometry has learned to hear.
