Tureis belongs to Puppis, the Stern of the ancient ship Argo Navis, a constellation so vast that eighteenth-century astronomers had to split it into three. It is a yellow-white F-type star 63 light-years away, mildly variable: its brightness shifts with a slow pulse that only a trained eye detects. Its name comes from the Arabic «Aṭ-Ṭurays», meaning a small shield — a reminder of how every culture has projected its everyday objects onto the sky.

Tureis lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January, when it culminates around midnight.
