What is HIP 37606
A yellow G-type star, close cousin to the Sun in temperature and colour, glows quietly within Puppis. Its light has only travelled some eighty years: it began when astronomers were starting to decipher stellar spectra and to grasp that the same chemical laws applied in every corner of the universe. To look at it is to look at a Sun set at an unimaginable distance, silent and steady, returning a familiar glow to an unfamiliar sky.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 37606 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
