Its story
4 Puppis is one of the whitish-yellow stars that populate Puppis, the fragment of the old Argo Navis that Lacaille carved out in the eighteenth century. It lies 235 light-years away and burns somewhat hotter than the Sun, with the cleanness typical of F-class stars. To find it from European latitudes you must look very low, toward that southern horizon where the sky opens onto a dense lane of the Milky Way scattered with young clusters.
