What is HIP 37441
In Lynx, that constellation Hevelius invented for the sharpest eyes, shines an orange star of K type. Its light set out more than three hundred years ago, around the start of the eighteenth century, when Bach was composing cantatas in Leipzig. Cooler and redder than the Sun, it unfolds that warm amber tone proper to long-lived stars. It is a modest glimmer in a difficult outline: to find it you must accept the lynx's challenge and look at the sky with the patience we usually lack.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 37441 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
