Variable starIts story
A blue B-type star pulses faintly within the sails of Puppis, its light flickering in slow rhythms invisible to the naked eye. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, its glow set out around six centuries ago, when European cartographers were drawing the first reliable maps of the southern skies. Across 619 light-years it carries the memory of an age that learned to chart what lay beyond the equator, brightening and dimming as if breathing.
