What is HIP 32558

It burns in Monoceros with the crimson hue of the cool, huge M-type stars, some 1,412 light years away. Its light set out around the 7th century, when the Qur'an was being written and the Visigothic kingdom still reigned over Hispania. An advanced giant, far larger than the Sun yet milder at its surface, where plasma moves with the slowness of a cosmic tide. Its deep red is the serene signature of a star that has already lived much of its story.

HIP 32558 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
