What is 26 Geminorum

26 Geminorum lights up near the feet of the Twins, about 142 light-years away. It is a young, hot, white A-type star, possessing the metallic elegance of suns still rich in hydrogen. Its light slipped free in the late 1800s, when astronomy was photographing stellar spectra for the first time and sorting them into the letters we still use today.

26 Geminorum lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January, when it culminates around midnight.
