Cool red starIts story
56 Geminorum is a red M0III hypergiant, cool and immense: it radiates roughly 380 times the Sun's light from a surface barely 3,700 K. Its brightness drifts gently between magnitudes 5.19 and 5.23, and it is suspected to be part of a multiple system observable only with large telescopes. Its blood-red light travels 443 years across Gemini before reaching us.
