Bet-1
Hot blue starIts story
Beta-1 Tucanae is part of a notable multiple system alongside Beta-2 and Beta-3, three stars that split cleanly in binoculars within the body of the southern Toucan. It is a hot blue B-type star, young and bright, whose light takes some 135 years to reach us. Seen from the southern hemisphere, it traces with its siblings a small geometric cluster that has guided astronomers ever since Bayer charted the southern sky in his Uranometria of 1603.
