What is HIP 24786
Its yellow light left Lepus around the year 1944, when Europe was living through the last year of the Second World War and the Normandy landings took place. It is a G-type star, a close cousin of the Sun in colour and temperature, with that familiar golden hue of dawn. The Hare crouches at Orion's feet, the eternal prey of the celestial hunter and his two dogs.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 24786 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
