44 Tauri is an exceptional Delta Scuti pulsator: at least fifteen independent vibration modes have been identified within it, making the star a laboratory for asteroseismology, the study of stellar interiors through their beats. At 205 light-years, this F-type star vibrates over cycles of just a few hours, each period telling something different about its internal structure. Taurus holds it in the winter sky, not far from the misty field of the Hyades.
Where it is and when to see it
44 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
