115 Tauri is a hot blue B-type visual double about 549 light-years away in Taurus, not far from the Hyades cluster. Its components separate only under large telescopes, but their combined light crosses the atmosphere with the bluish-white tinge typical of the youngest, most energetic stars. The radiation reaching us tonight set out near the end of the Italian Renaissance.
Where it is and when to see it
115 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
