30 Piscium —also catalogued as YY Piscium— is an aged red giant that has exhausted the hydrogen in its core and swelled to about 109 solar radii. Its brightness drifts gently between magnitudes 4.31 and 4.41 with no clean period, hinting at cycles of 23, 32, 53 and 167 days. Its light takes 432 years to reach us, having set out around the time Shakespeare was writing his last plays.
