Nu Horologium
What is Nu Horologium
Nu Horologii harbours a debris disk: a double ring of cold dust at 56 kelvin surrounding the star, a vestige of the process by which rocky bodies might have formed. The inner ring orbits at about 96 astronomical units, the outer ring extends to 410. It is a white A2 star 165 light-years away, in the southern constellation of the Pendulum Clock, drawn by Lacaille in honour of the astronomer's instrument.
Where it is and when to see it
Nu Horologium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
