What is Mu Horologium
Mu Horologii burns some 142 light-years away inside the small Clock, one of the technical constellations Lacaille drew while charting the sky from the Cape. It is a yellow-white F-type star, slightly hotter than the Sun, with a discreet brightness that barely reaches naked-eye visibility under clean skies.
Where it is and when to see it
Mu Horologium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
